history of apartheid

Apartheid came to south africa with the fight between the dutch and the english, though designed by the loseing side of the dutch apartheid made it self known by placeing the races of the country apart from eachother and cementing whites as the dominant race though also the minority in the land. Every aspect of life had rules separating blacks, whites, and those of mixed race, createing hatred through all of them for each other. Blacks were required to carry pass books showing their standings under apartheid, and misstake was delt with imediatly and harshly. Eventually blacks broke under the weight of apartheid and revolted, a large group refused to carry the pass books and many were killed, the majority who weren't were still wounded. Though most of these horrible asspects of apartheid have been removed the life is still beingled by many, and the fight continues on for equal rights.

Modderbee

Modderbee is a prison in South Africa that is known for its horrible conditions and mistreatment of prisoners. What was once a gold mineing camp was not an over filled hell on earth for those unfortunate to break any laws or none but only cause inconvieniance to a white man. Marks mother greatly feared that if her husband went to modderbee he would never be the same upon return if in fact he returned at all as many prisoners perished in the appaling conditions.

kaffir boy abstract

Mark Mathabane is like any other youngster in the city of alexandra a south african slum in the times of the aparthied but for the fact that he has yet to squash his feeling that this is not the way things should or could be, he constantly questions his mother why things are the way they are, she can only tell him that it just is and that he will understand better when he is older. I can i dentify with his mode of thinking when he sees such differences in treatment only because of difference in appearance.
